LUJE Plays "Holiday Pops" with Fox Valley Symphony
The Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble will perform with the Fox Valley Symphony in its Holiday Pops concert Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m at Pickard Auditorium in Neenah High School.  Each group will perform a rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite,” with the Fox Valley Symphony playing the original piece and LUJE showcasing the 1960 Duke Elington and Billy Strayhorn swing arrangement of the classic work.  The concert will close with LUJE and FVS playing together on a Fred Sturm arrangement of the famous jazz standard "Take the 'A' Train." Tickets, at $20 for adults, $10 for students, can be ordered by calling 920-968-0300.

Tickets for Holiday Favorite “Messiah” Sold Out
All tickets for the Friday, Dec. 5 performance of Handel's "Messiah" in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel have been sold. The Lawrence Box Office, however, is taking names for a waiting list should any additional tickets become available. People can get on the waiting list by calling the box office at 920-832-6749. For those unable to attend in person, a live webcast of the concert also will be available at http://www.lawrence.edu/conservatory/webcasts/. This is the first time since 2004 the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra and all three Lawrence choirs, under the direction of conductor Richard Bjella, are performing the popular holiday classic.  Read more.

Giving Fair Offers Humanitarian Holiday Shopping
The second annual Alternative Giving Fair will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in Riverview Lounge of the Lawrence Memorial Union.  The fair will feature a wide variety of tangible items hand-crafted by people in developing countries as well as "alternative" gifts focused on local, national and international humanitarian projects. 
Live music will be performed by Lawrence students and refreshments will be available.  Admission is free.  The fair is sponsored by the campus organization Students' War Against Hunger and Poverty (SWAHP).  Read more.

Drawings, Paintings and CUTE! in Wriston Exhibition

California-based mixed-media artist Gretchen Beck's abstract drawings and paintings of Nigerien culture are among the displays in the latest Wriston Art Center galleries exhibition. Prints, paintings, and video by Milwaukee-based artist Lynn Tomaszewski, and selected images from Lawrence’s permanent collection designed to make you say “oh, how cute!”  are also featured in the exhibition, which runs through Dec. 21.
